What’s Your Go-To AI Tool For Coding, Writing, Images & Video

Corbin BerrimanCorbin BerrimanOwnerTop contributor· 15h · edited

AI tools are becoming increasingly specialised, with different platforms excelling at coding, written content, image generation, video creation, research, and more.

What AI tools do you rely on most?

hare your go-to AI platform for:

Coding & development — programming, debugging, app development and automation

Written content — articles, emails, research, brainstorming and creative writing

Images — image generation, editing, design and creative artwork

Video — video generation, editing, animation and visual effects

Tell the community which tool you use, what you use it for, and why you prefer it. You can also mention any tools you've tried that didn't work well for you.

There’s no need to limit yourself to one platform — share your favourites across different categories and help others discover new AI tools.

Summary of this discussion

Members discussed their preferred AI tools across different categories, focusing primarily on coding assistants. Participants debated whether AI tools reduce the need for programming experience or if human oversight remains essential for logic and debugging. The conversation concluded that while assistants help with boilerplate code, developers still need a deep understanding of syntax and system logic.

  • GitHub Copilot and standard developer assistants are commonly used for writing scripts and boilerplate code.
  • Participants noted that prompt engineering cannot fix flawed core logic.
  • Human programmers are still required to fix logic errors and understand the underlying system.

  • Will future AI tools eliminate the need for traditional programming experience in favor of prompt expertise?

For writing scripts and automating small tasks in Python, I just use standard developer assistants, but I've found most of them still need a human who actually understands the syntax to fix the logic errors

Hey James, what are some of the developer assistants that you use? And are you finding they are improving, I am just thinking will we eventually not need to be experienced in programming and instead be an expert in prompts?

I mostly stick to the usual IDE assistants like GitHub Copilot. To be fair, they're getting better at boilerplate code, but prompt engineering still won't save you when the core logic is flawed. You still need to know how the system actually works underneath when things go sideways.
